• You can in fact still get a passport via the normal issuing/renewal process: http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html If you need one for imminent travel from a passport agency that's in a federal building, though, the building itself might be closed. In that case you can go to a U.S. consulate or embassy to get one. Enjoy your trip, I hear Australia's awesome! Want to go myself someday soon.
