@dsd*, high school is a social artifact of the industrial revolution over a century ago. If it wasn't for the inertia of teachers unions, it would be gone by now. Research has shown that those in the top of their high school class for the past twenty years are not the most fiscally successful. Time for something new.
@cfrey - Do you really want high schoolers in this country to have anything to do with the workforce? That would be like using affirmative action to prevent discrimination against penguins. I have no idea what the fuck I'm talking about.
I'm just saying not everyone hated high school. People need to worry about themselves and less about others. Just be happy and let go of what others like or don't like
@cfreymarc: You're my favorite type of commenter, the guy who once read half an op-ed piece in Mother Jones and now tries to spit out some semi-coherent, contrarian babble loosely based on it. First of all, the purpose of public education is to...educate the public. Why would you measure educational success by earnings? Do most movie stars and pro athletes seem like they were top academics in high school? There is tons of evidence about how education quality directly relates to GDP, living stan
And what do you propose for "something new"? Something besides providing grade school public education, an integral part of literally all of the richest, most well-developed countries in the world? I'm all ears.
Cfreymarc, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Haters gonna hate. Reality is that those who succeed in high school typically succeed in life. Giving you guys more to bitch about. ..."I didn't start because coach didn't like me." No, you sucked. I wasn't popular because I was shy and not cocky/rude. No. It's cuz you are homely and awkward
