I looked into this last week. Any temp. Below body temp (96F) will make you cooler. But any thing below 75F you risk hypothermia. Most have adjustable heaters I think.
you guys aren't thinking this through. look: buy giant freezer. put filled mattress in DURING MID-DAY. sure, it'll be rock hard at first...BUT it'll thaw by night and the the top layer of water will be ice cold, for all your hot, humid, summer night needs! do this every couple days, rinse, and repeat.
If someone does try this, be sure to underfill the mattress. Unlike most liquids, water expands upon freezing, so a near-full mattress would explode. Same as what happens when you put a soda in the freezer.
The slushy bed sounds OK. As for everything else? Haha, not so much. I don't think I'd enjoy sleeping on a giant ice cube, or a bed filled with smaller cubes.
