The whole DUI thing has gotten way out of hand when people get them on bicycles, kayaks, and skateboards. If doing 70mph in an 18wheeler on public roads alongside families in minivans, then of course we want you to be "sober as a preacher on sunday." However, when they start handing out chicken-shit DUI's to people on unmotorized toys that operate outside of traffic and require no driving test, license, registration, o4 insurance, and can be operated by a 12 year old, something is wrong
Its all about money. Cities expect income from tickets, so much so that its included in their yearly budget. Also, when cities lose money in taxes, they look to the police department to make up the difference, which results in officers getting reprimanded for giving warnings and bullshit tickets such as these.
Which is how I've managed to never get out of a ticket... Almost got out of one by crying... either that or I even out the statistics so they don't seem like they're racial profiling. Bastards.

Also, question. How the hell is DUI's on kayaks and canoes protecting people, when people are breaking into my car, and stealing my shit. Really, how much damage can a kayak do?

Dude, cops are ripin you off, a DUI is when your in a motor vehicle and im assuming it was body power opperating the kayak :P the most they can charge you with is public intoxication if theres no motor
@FistedSister: I completely agree however if you had seen the condition of my room mates knees, forehead, elbows and black eyes after she biked through 4 venues of a bicycle pub crawl, you'd beg to differ. We had to take her home early coz she couldn't go one yard on the bike without ending up ass over tit, face planted on the sidewalk! It was hilarious. The bect day she asked me if she'd been in a fight. I said, "Your bike and the pavement beat the shit out of you." Am thinking the B
I think if I got a DUI on am unmotorized boat I wud just laugh. U would have to be having a darn good time to be drunk on one of those babies:) new goal
You CAN get a DUI on a Kayak... I work with the Natural Resources Police in MD and YES!!! you can get one and its called OUI! Operating Under the Influence.
This is NOT false. DUI's can absolutely be given out if you are operating almost anything under the influence. My friend got one on a bicycle in wrightsville beach. It happens all the time actually. Their "reasoning" behind it is that if you are swerving and in the middle of the road you are endangering yourself by getting hit by a car. Like i assume a kayaker would be hit by a boat. Its pretty much just a bullshit law to get the city more money, but it is in no way fake.
