It is embryological having to do with the descent of the testes from the abdomen into the scrotum. One has venous drainage into a renal vein and the other directly into the vena cava hence the asymmetry. You will learn this in your first year of medical school.

Not to be all serious, but it's because you have a veracose vien. It's common, and it's nothing to worry about. Although it can make it harder to knock a girl up.
