  • OP is in Canada, where laws about officer jurisdiction may be different. (In the U.S., for that matter, there are states where a town cop's oath is good anywhere in the state.) Given the more relaxed attitudes towards weed in Canada, OP may have been dealing with an officer whose chain-of-command thinks that prosecuting petty marijuana possession is not worthwhile.

• I live in the same area code in Canada. Some cops are assholes and will charge you with possession for like 2 grams ( under an eighth), but some are chillen and really don't care.
