Sorry to burst your bubble, but special shoes aren't enough to actually give you enough of a workout to achieve any kind of significant weight loss. So maybe the joke is that she (and apparently you) thinks that it will. It's like going to McDonald's and ordering 3 double cheeseburgers, a large fry and a diet Coke.
I thought shape ups are meant to be worn by anyone.\n"I just saw a woman in a motorized wheelchair wearing shape ups." <- at least that would have irony going for it.
This doesn't even make sense. She's over weight, she's trying to do something about it, so you make fun of her for it? That's totally back asswards. Yet another reason to not like Houston.

Toning shoes are for just that. Toning. You could have the most muscular legs in the world, and no one would see them if you're orca fat. This is why people are dying of obesity. Fat people are always looking for the easy way out.
My mom is overweight and wears these to work because she has to stand for hours at a time and says they are the most comfortable shoes for that. She doesn't expect to lose weight from them, but she's not supposed to wear them because she's fat? Lame...
Nicely put freckleface. All those who are bashing this, pull the fat out of your eyes. People that buy in to those BS "get fit with out actually put in an effort" deserve it. It's called a GYM and RUNNING.
Lol. Those shoes are to tone. Not for weight loss. So for you saying she's trying to improve herself implies that she is not working out would be able to understand that fact...
